Houston Stevens is a life-long labor and community activist who currently serves as President of the Ivy Hill Neighborhood Association; Treasurer of the Ivy Hill Little League; Executive Board Member of the Giblin Association and District Leader for Essex County Democratic Committee, Newark West District 36. In those capacities, since 1994, Houston has provided leadership in community efforts to improve public safety, renovate Ivy Hill Park, support neighborhood schools, sponsor community-based arts & cultural events and public forums, establish youth recreation programs, and advocate with state, county and municipal officials for public services on behalf of the Ivy Hill community. A few notable projects include: establishment of After School Youth Development Program at Mt. Vernon School; $2.5 million renovations in Ivy Hill Park; establishment of Ivy Hill Little League Baseball; establishment of Ivy Hill Basketball League; establishment of Ivy Hill Interna
